On her birthday, Rosie stood on top of Bowfell after a massive 8.5-hour car-to-car hike. This wasn’t just any birthday walk—it was the final climb in her epic self-designed mission: the Sandgate Class Name Fell Walking Challenge.
Rosie had set out to climb eight Lake District fells, each named after a classroom at Sandgate School:
Scafell Pike
Blencathra
Fairfield
Helvellyn
Pillar
Haystacks
Skiddaw
And finally, Bowfell
This challenge wasn’t easy. There were long hikes, bad weather days, early starts, and steep climbs. But Rosie pushed through all of it with determination, energy, and a great sense of humour.
According to our interviews and behind-the-scenes stats:
23 wild wees
2kg of chocolate bribes
6 bacon butties made and consumed
8 hot chocolate rewards earned
83 "it's just over that bit" lies told to keep motivation up
And, somehow, zero blisters
As part of the celebration, I got to sit down with Rosie alongside the Student Councillors to ask her about the experience. She talked about the toughest climbs, the best views, and how proud she felt to finish on her birthday. Rosie said, "It was really hard, but it felt amazing to get to the top."
This wasn’t just about ticking off mountains. Rosie showed what adventure really means: facing the unknown, challenging yourself, and doing something extraordinary. She planned it, trained for it, and smashed it—step by step.
The whole school cheered her on, and as National Walking Month came to a close, Rosie gave everyone at Sandgate something to celebrate.
Rosie, you’re a legend. You climbed real mountains and showed the rest of us how to keep going, even when it gets tough. This is DJ Oli, signing off with maximum respect.
Mission complete. Bowfell done. Challenge conquered.
